STEAM Workshops and Maker ActivitiesThe goal of our STEAM program activities is to engage youth in multidisciplinary art projects that have expression beyond classroom. The activities are Common Core aligned and engage youth in projects that introduce them to visual arts & design thinking skills, enhance computer literacy, presentation & collaboration skills, and help students maintain and improve their academic skills through project-based activities that use concepts learned in the classroom. Our projects guide youth through arts education activities that will improve their cultural identity and self esteem. All students participating in these activities use Maker Journals to track their designs and iterations and get to keep their completed projects. Classroom teachers are encouraged to participate in workshops held at local middle schools, which introduce them to STEAM projects that align with their curriculum and can be easily implemented in their classrooms. These projects align with our mission and vision and demonstrate our commitment to the children and families in East San Jose.
